ABSTRACT
This study was carried out to examine the history of national theatre. Specifically, the study examine the evolution of Theatre performance in Nigeria. The study also find out the people and things involved in the cultural performance in the theatre. Lastly, the study investigate the history of the national theatre. The study adopted the historical analysis. The findings revealed that the study found that the history of theatre is part and parcel of the Nigerian society. It has contributed and will continue to contribute to the development of the society through its various functions. Hence its relevance is not in doubt. Its development will continue to be according to the dictates and dynamics of the society. The study thereby recommend that appropriate legislative, administrative and funding arrangements be made for the management of built heritage in the country. Also, that official support be given to the development of modern heritage studies in order to provide the intellectual foundation for the preservation of built heritage in the country
